Acrylic on Canvas
Artist: M. Solorzano
Influenced by Picasso’s period of cubism, and surrealism and De Kooning’s abstract expressionism, M. Solorzano paints biomorphic shapes. She is great at ambiguously blending figure and ground in her pictures while dismembering, re-assembling and distorting her figures in the process.
This is a self portrait of the artist inspired by Frida Kahlo in style. The artist here wears golden thread in her hair, flowers that are visible in many of her other works. The subject is sitting straight and forward with her eyes firmly forward as well. Again, we see the strong, confident woman that M. Solorzano frequently paints.
