  • Influenced by Picasso’s period of cubism, and surrealism and De Kooning’s abstract expressionism,  M. Solorzano paints biomorphic shapes. She is great at ambiguously blending figure and ground in her pictures while dismembering, re-assembling and distorting her figures in the process.

  • La Copa Rota.

The meaning of "la copa rota" is the broken glass.  This painting is inspired by the song La Copa Rota by Jose Feliciano.

The song speaks of a man in a bar who wants to drink his sorrows away, due to an infidelity.

In this painting, the artist paints a woman sitting in a bar, sad and depressed.

"Worry not, my friend, that my lips are bleeding.

Don’t be afraid, for it’s just what I wish:

To erase every trace of his cheating kiss

With the edge of this glass!

"Bartender, serve me the broken goblet!

Pour more, and let my fever obsess me.

Bartender, serve me the broken glass!

I want to shed, drop by drop, all the poison of his love."

Some of the details that we see in many of the artist's paintings is the daisy (favorite flower of the aritst), big eyes, and checkerd black and white floor tiles.
