PUBERTY

Influenced by Picasso’s period of cubism, and surrealism and De Kooning’s abstract expressionism,  M. Solorzano paints biomorphic shapes. She is great at ambiguously blending figure and ground in her pictures while dismembering, re-assembling and distorting her figures in the process. An admirer of beauty, she paints the female form as the mother of the universe, and nature meshed into one. Her art has been changing through the years to a more figurative style and melodic lines.

PUBERTY. She’s inspired by Sandro Botticelli’s Masterpiece Primavera. I think my PUBERTY combines Flora and The Three Graces, Pleasure, Chastity, and Beauty. (Four subjects in Botticelli’s Primavera)

 
CLOTHED IN WHITE,
SHE’S A GLOWING FLOWER;
A PETAL OF GRACE.

INNOCENCE CANNOT LAST,
YET HER CHILDISH LIGHT
COULD SEIZE AN ARMY.
THAT HIDDEN BEAUTY
DONS NO MASK AND
BEARS NO SECRETS,
IT ONLY HARBORS SUGAR.
THESE VIRTUES ARE GOLDEN,
FRESH AND WARM,
VERBOTEN AND IMPENETRABLE
BUT WOMANHOOD FORBIDS
THAT BLANKET OF PURITY
FROM SHROUDING THE STAINS.
THEY CAREFULLY REVEAL
THAT SHE IS AS
VULNERABLE AS SHE LOOKS
AND VERY BREAKABLE.
