GIRL WITH YELLOW SKIRT

Influenced by Picasso’s period of cubism, and surrealism and De Kooning’s abstract expressionism,  M. Solorzano paints biomorphic shapes. She is great at ambiguously blending figure and ground in her pictures while dismembering, re-assembling and distorting her figures in the process.

Girl With Yellow Skirt shows us a woman sitting up straight, shoulders squared towards the viewer.  She is wearing a very femenine yellow skirt, fashionable gloves, and stockings.  Her hair is of golden and silver tones.

In this painting, the artists was playing with different patterns and bold colors put together in a way that they blend together beautifully,almost as a dance.

 

What is unique about this painting is that wherever you go, the woman sitting in the chair follows you with her gaze.  

 

The artist here, again celebrates womanhood and femininity.
